Exploring the Carolinas one Pint at a time

Brew News

We start the week in South Carolina with the news of the closing of Benford Brewing. Evidently it was a bit of a destination location while he did brew, he was also selling woodwork and agriculture products at his location, one product helped sell the others. With the change in liability law at the beginning of the year he couldn’t find an affordable insurance plan that would fit his business model. He plans on keeping the equipment and reopening if law gets changed.

Back in NC we have a couple of stories that amount to no news, but let’s update. At Black Mountain they are going through a mediation process but so far is not yielding any results. Charlotte brings a Spectrum story of Club West Brewing dealing with regaining public support.

Last month I mentioned breweries for sale, now I have seen confirmation of one in Raleigh, but I hadn’t found the listing previously. This listing describes the Tobacco Road Brewery location. It’s a great building and a number of area brewers have worked the space, let’s hope the right buyer will be found.

Also in the Triangle, specifically Pittsboro, news of an opening or perhaps better transition. House of Hops had been on the market for a while, so rather this change wasn’t unexpected locally. The location is being transformed into a taproom location for Forgotten Roads from Graham.

The final story of the week is Joshua Bernstein does a deep dive into how breweries are adapting to the current market. I found it a well thought out piece so I hope you enjoy it.

On the events calendar we have Raleigh Times 20th anniversary Tuesday and Hopfly’s 6th anniversary on Saturday.
